Indian govt. Plans to start 3 new channels for North-East

:: BîG BREAKîNG NEWS :: >> The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) is planning to increase the number of Doordarshanchannels in the North East to capture the region’s diverse cultures.Officials told PTI that at present there is only one 24×7channel for the region and a proposal is under consideration to further have three branches of the same.As per the proposal, there can be three 24×7 Doordarshan channels for the North East namely, DD Arunprabha forArunachal Pradesh and Sikkim; one for Manipur, Mizoramand Nagaland; and a third channel for Assam and Meghalaya.According a report tabled in Parliament recently, theStanding Committee on Information Technology was informed by the MIB about the proposal to fork out theexisting North East channel. The Ministry also informed the Committee that starting three channels will be a software intensive exercise ascontent will be required to be customised as perrequirement of a particular state. “A single state like Manipur has several languages whichare spoken there. It is felt that there should be a singlechannel for every state. But launching a new channel also brings with it questions related to availability ofmanpower, viability, content,” a senior official told PTI.In its report, the Parliamentary panel urged the government to accord top priority to these projects and fix atimeframe for their operationalisation. ============== #GJ
